I got a job. Hooray!
It's in Toronto though (boooo!…or maybe booo-urns? We'll see how this Timmins boy adapts) and it's with Thornley Fallis Communications (You know, the guys who are into blogging that I love so much) I owe it all to David Jones, who was working his last day on the very same day I was hired. He got a job at Fleishman-Hillard Toronto, so I'm being left to my own devices at Thornley Fallis.
My job title is "Account Coordinator" and it's entry level PR. From what I understand everyone hired by the firm possesses some sort of special skill, and mine just happens to be in social media (blogging, podcasting, online stuff) and with David leaving, I am one of the only people who will work on accounts that need social media attention. The firms' Toronto boss, Terry Fallis, will be my mentor. He hosts the Inside PR podcast that deals with public relations in Canada that you should all be listening to (hint hint). They have a very innovative way of doing business, and they are not the type to treat their entry-level staff like temps. Everyone works hard, and everyone contributes. I couldn't have asked for a better start to my career in public relations.
So, it pays well, benefits and possible bonuses (or is it boni?) but I won't make much money for a few years 'cuz I'm in debt up to my ears and living alone in downtown Toronto isn't as cheap as living with a roomate in central London. I don't have a place locked down yet, but I should in a few days.
I *should* be at the graduation to talk all about how much I miss London and goofing off like a college kid, but I can't exactly ask for time off yet. I don't start until June 5th, and grad is the following Friday. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Until early June, I'll be in London. My email is clarke_christopher@yahoo.ca it's also my MSN addy. So, hit me up guys. If anyone wants to learn more about blogging and the Internet and social media, I'd be happy to help/teach you. It sounds geeky, but I want everyone to be exposed to the stuff I've been exposed to that has led to me being hired (and just so we're clear, the blogging is why I'm being hired). I'm more than happy to help guys. Don't be afraid to ask.
Until we meet again CCPR (Hopefully sooner than later!)
